This Is One of The Dorkiest Things I’ve Ever Done

As I recently recounted, Mister Adequate gifted me with a Scroll of Resurrection and I used it to claim a free week of WoW.

During that week, I messed around a bit, mostly on alts, and I had a little bit of fun, but not quite enough to warrant resubscribing. I let my free week run out, satisfied that I’d gotten my WoW fix for a little while.

Then I remembered that I’d just put a whole bunch of crap on the auction house right before my time expired.

So I resubbed for a month. For no other reason than to ensure that a bunch of virtual gold doesn’t have to rot in a virtual mailbox.

I’m… not the only one who has done this, right?

…right?

  1. You are not, I did this back in… I want to say 2007? 2008? One of the two. In my defense it was a LOT of items and I had previously lost hundreds of gold because I did the same thing the time before but didn’t resub!

  2. Sort of. I have a hunter alt on Misha that had a few stacks of mithril ore up on the AH. The last time I logged him in (yesterday I believe) I had one day left on the gold in my mailbox from the auctions.

  3. I’ve just shrugged over the lost gold. But then gold is not that important to me since I don’t raid, so I never need to buy the insanely expensive enchants and stuff.

That said, I do vaguely remember resubbing once due to not wanting to lose gold, only to find out that I had waited to long and the mail had expired.

Oh, and once I was hacked. I felt so dirty I didn’t log on again and let the account expire. Then, just shy of a month later I resubbed to see what the damage was (I found it strange that my armory page still had my main (and then only max lvl char) hunter still in full gear. I found her in the middle of Borean Tundra with no ammo but a bag full of some fire motes or whatever, and a mailbox full of even more motes of every kind from “unkowns”, tho my low lvl alts had been stripped bare. I deleted the alts and sold the motes for a few hundred gold. I was lucky as shorty before being hacked I had 3-4k gold, but I spent it on BoE leatherworking recipies and was practically broke after that.

  4. You are so not the only one although I can retain a (small) degree of smugness having just returned from three weeks in England knowing that I had cleared everything down before my last game card expired. Now I just have to find some real gold to buy a new game card…

  5. Doesn’t Mister Adequate get a free month of game time when you buy a month of game time after being resurrected? That should make it pretty easy to convince him to pay for that first month. He pays what he normally would, you get a free month of play. That’s how I worked it with my brother a couple years ago.
