One Hundred Thousand! And Nerevar Rising

So at some point over the last few days we’ve surpassed 100,000 views on this blog.  A big thank you to anyone who has ever visited, read, and/or commented!  Mister Adequate and myself really just started this as a little side project and knowing that sometimes people like to read our vidya rambles makes us both feel all tingly inside.

Now then, let’s get down to business.  Mister Adequate and I are recently doing nothing but playing an old game.  This should surprise nobody since playing old games is what we do 95% of the time.  The game we are playing this time, however, is one Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, and the problem with this game is that once you start playing it you will never stop for like the next month.

This is all a part of the Tribunal's plan.
This is all a part of the Tribunal’s plan.

Anyways you can all blame this game for the reason that these two bloggers have disappeared off the face of the Earth and are currently ranting and raving about journeying far ‘neath moon-and-star.

I’ll tell you what, though.  Talking about Morrowind has a tendency to cause most people to suddenly itch to reinstall it, which is why the number of my Steam friends who own this game has jumped from five to eleven in the past week or so.  Because I won’t shut up about it.  Anyways, if you, too, are now feeling this same itch, I have a present for you!  It’s called Morrowind Overhaul and it’s an absolutely delicious mod pack that installs everything great for Morrowind and makes it look even more beautiful than it already is.  Best of all, it pretty much does everything for you, so you just have to click the “Next” button a million times and do little else.  Easy mode.  Highly recommended for both longtime Morrowind players and also new players who perhaps are wary about the graphics, which, I won’t lie, haven’t aged particularly well.

What are you currently playing as you enter the new year?

Back in the saddle

As dear Pike said a couple of days ago we should be resuming normal service now that our visit has ended. It was supremely enjoyable and I look forward to her reciprocal visit to rainy old England in a few months. Still, let’s get to the videogames, eh?

What have you guys been playing over the past few weeks? Pike and myself mostly played our typical standbys, which is to say Civilization IV and a little bit of Earth Defense Force 2017, but things have come out that warrant attention. Dragon’s Dogma, which I have but haven’t yet played a great deal of, Max Payne 3, and Lollipop Chainsaw to name a few.

Or we could bring up E3 – a few things there looked real nice, I’m thinking Watch_Dogs, Assassin’s Creed 3, and The Last of Us. I may actually need a PS3 for that last one. Did anything at the show catch your eyes, folks?

Despite The Last of Us this situation won't ever change.

And as it’s Friday, why not; What are you playing this weekend? :D Anything you’ve finally managed to make some time for, or just some old favorites that help you relax?

As an aside are there any topics you want to see us talk about? We’ve had some requests before and I don’t think we’ve managed to remember them all; please let us know in the comments!

*pokes microphone*

So we really fell off of the bus with updates here, haven’t we?  Sorry about that.  We got, um… distracted by our visit.  On the plus side we both have all sorts of new blog ideas now, and we shall return you to your regularly scheduled blogging in very short order.

In the meantime, have this article about a guy who played the same save file of Civilization II for ten years: Fate of the World: The Decade Long game of Civ II

Soooo… how have you guys been?

Konnichiwaaaaa~~~

Hello readers, it’s time we had a talk.

Pike and I have been discussing things regarding the blog and where it is going, and we have decided that in order to achieve our fiscal goals going forward we need to make some changes. Therefore The Android’s Closet is going to be undergoing an overhaul over the next week or two. Here are just some of the changes you can expect to see!

The blog’s name will be changing to Sephiroth and Naruto Discuss Japan;
Our focus will change away from any Western-made videogames, though we will still talk about Japanese ones of course;
We will be discussing all aspects of Japanese culture, from their ancient and venerable traditions to the perfect warriors that are samurai, who have never been defeated by baka gaijin in a fair fight!
We will no longer be using images from inferior gaijin shows such as My Little Pony, as they lack the art and beauty of traditional hand-painted Japanese anime;
We will now be beginning a special feature on weekends where we examine our favorite furry and babyfur fanart!
And hopefully soon, your hosts xXSephirothXx and NekoNekoKawaii~=^.^= will be actually moving to the best country in the world, Japan, in order to be a part of their superior and ancient culture!

Furry versions of Western things are acceptable, however

And here is a sample list of topics you can expect to see discussed soon:
Why Sephy-sama is the greatest character ever written in videogames, and why we want a game about The Adventures of Sephy-sama!
Why sushi and other Japanese cuisine is the only acceptable type of food!
Remaking Katawa Shoujo, but including girls from our favorite animes like Naruto, Lucky*Star, Battle Royale, and Bleach!

If this sounds like something you’d be interested in reading about, you can buy a Sephiroth and Naruto Discuss Japan pass for just 59.99 USD, and gain exclusive access to each subsequent post for just 2.99 USD per post! And if you preorder now you get to choose whether you view the posts in red, blue, or green text!

Nintendinitis

Well, I guess it was bound to happen. Not only have I literally grown up playing video games (and/or using the computer), but carpal tunnel syndrome runs in my family, and it looks like my own luck with staving it off may have run out: this past week or so I’ve had growing discomfort and numbness in my right wrist/thumb, particularly when using the computer. It’s probably something I’ll have to get looked at– in the meantime I’ve given myself a wrist brace, which seems to be helping some, even if it makes typing and such slightly awkward.

I’m still adjusting to the brace (I just got it about a half hour ago), but I figure I should probably do the right thing and give my poor wrist a break and minimize my computer usage for a little while. Well, crap. I was in the middle of colonizing Canada as Portugal in my latest EU3 game, too.

My face, upon realizing the implications of all of this.

Oh, who are we kidding? I’ll probably keep playing anyway, albeit a little less. And on the plus side I still seem to be able to comfortably hold a 360 controller with no issues, which means maybe I can actually finish Skyrim (and poke around with Mirror’s Edge which I’ve recently acquired.)

Has anyone else had this problem? What are your tips for dealing with it– especially as a gamer?

20,000 Views!

Just noticed that we topped 20K page views a very short while ago, which is convenient because neither Pike nor I have the first freaking clue for a blog topic today so I’ll just take this opportunity to profusely thank all our readers and commenters! You guys are quite wonderful and it is altogether too satisfying to watch those little numbers of page views and subscribers rise, and to get emails notifying me of comments made on my posts etc.

So yes, thank you very much, from both of us!

I didn't know what image to use so I used Pinkie Pie as a human not knowing what to do about my not knowing what to do and oh no I've gone cross-eyed

I suppose it is expected that I at least mention videogames on our My Little Pony image blog, yes? Well, I’ve been playing a ton of SimCity 4 the last few days and I had an interesting experience. Last night when I was finishing it up I looked around what I had wrought and thought “Yeah, that’s okay.” This morning when I went back to it, I thought “Oh wow, I am some sort of urban designing genius, this looks great!” I wonder what caused this discrepancy? Do you guys find you can feel differently about stuff like that if you give it some time, or are you more likely to feel it’s worse than you originally thought, as I generally am? Also if anyone’s interested I might provide a few screenshots as I go along! Not now though. Because I have none to hand and the game takes forever to load when your mod folder is three times the size of the game itself.

Also playing through Human Revolution, which is brilliant, and waiting for Dead Island, which sadly doesn’t look like it’s going to be the horrorfest I originally hoped for but does nevertheless have the potential, I think, to be an enjoyable zombie-slaying romp. And there’s always Project Zomboid for real zombie survival stuff!

Feedback Time!

The Android’s Closet has been open for a little over four months now and I think we’ve been doing well; we’ve had a lot of great comments and discussions and Mister Adequate and I continue to be flattered that people actually like to show up and read what we cough all over the screen. We are both aiming to be People Who Write for a Living at some point in the future, and so this is great practice for both of us.

Now this is sort of a cop-out post, but… oh who am I kidding? This is a cop-out post. Anyways! Basically I want to know if there’s anything in particular you’d like to hear about. I know that this blog tends to orbit around a pretty steady rotation of a handful of specific games, but when you combine both of our respective gaming experiences we’ve played a LOT of games through the years so if you want to hear about something in particular, lay it on us in the comments. There’s a good chance at least one of us has messed around with it.

I’m also curious if there are any specific types of posts you’d like to see more of. More Let’s Plays, like my Civ one? Reviews? Videos? Some sort of *gasp* podcast? We’re all ears!

At some point soon I’ll be looking into getting a dedicated email for the blog so you can email us these sorts of requests anytime you wish. I’m also considering getting a dedicated Twitter account for the blog. Currently, my own personal Twitter auto-tweets everything from the blog, but I think that causes some confusion because a lot of people assume that Mister Adequate’s posts are my own and, while flattering, I want to be sure he gets due credit.

To make up for the lack of video game content in this post, have Fluttershy playing FFVI.
